well I'd disagree with that. De Jong is their best defender and his missing will be huge. Abreu was substituted for a MF and they went with then 3 strikers which completely negates his effectiveness. Abreu is phenomenal at laying balls to his faster striking partner, a far better passer than Suarez. In the air there just isn't a comparison as he is the best left in the tourney for headers. His issues, unlike Suarez, is he can't take any defender 1v1 and he isn't the fastest player out there. Putting him in a 3-4-3 was only done in case they got to penalties and you saw what he did there. It was no coincidence he was put in the 5th PK spot as he is probably the most experienced Uruguayan player and has kicked a ton of big PK's with Nacional and other club teams. When he starts against Holland you will see how strong he is in the air assuming the Uruguayans even can get enough possession to make him effective. He's a very different player than Suarez but no less effective.
De Jong's absence will be severely missed as they don't have great defensive depth. I'm a United fan so automatically don't like De Jong, but he's a hell of an aggressive defender!
Suarez has been an absolute beast this tourney. He didn't score today,
but he is always putting himself in scoring situations. He will sorely be missed.
I just don't think Uruguay has the firepower to defeat Holland.
I haven't seen a whole lot of Abreu but he looked slower than Heskie today ... and that's slow.
To be honest, as a Dutch supporter, I'm ecstatic that Suarez is out on Tuesday.
He is an extremely dangerous player and a difference maker. I respect Abreu's game
but he doesn't strike fear into me like Suarez does.
